With the introduction of semi-permanent makeup to BlushBrow Studio, this post intends to provide the lowdown on this popular treatment, and thus enable you to decide if this is the procedure for you. First, we will offer answers to some of your most asked questions, before detailing a breakdown of the process from start to finish.
NANO BROWS: WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?
Most of us have heard of permanent makeup (PMU/SPMU), but what exactly are Nano Brows? How long does it last? What look can be achieved?
Whether your goal is to enhance over-plucked eyebrows, correct any asymmetry, or achieve the much coveted bold and fluffy brow, PMU can help to achieve your brow goals.
Nano Brows (AKA nanoblading, digital brows, and machine brows) is a form of cosmetic tattooing created using a digital machine which implants pigment into the surface of the skin.
Using needles of varying sizes and configurations to perform micro perforation allows the artist to emulate the depth, texture, and movement of the hairs for defined or fluffy eyebrows and build density by layering soft shading techniques.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NANO BROWS AND A TATTOO?
The pigment used for nano needling differs to that which is used in traditional tattooing. Pigment is delivered into the upper layers of the skin, right below the epidermis, rather than being injected much deeper in the dermis, as with traditional tattoos. The ink used for PMU procedures also differs to that used in traditionally tattooing, as it formulated to fade over time, and therefore a colour boost appointment is required every 1-2 years.
HOW DOES NANOBLADING DIFFER TO MICROBLADING?
As we have identified Nano Brows are created using a digital machine to deposit pigment by creating tiny punctures in the skin. By using a single needle and varying device configurations, several desired styles (such as hairstroke, ombre, powder or combination brows) can be achieved. Microblading however, uses a handheld device made up of pins to create the blade shape which is used to perform tiny scratches in the skin by which to deposit pigment into.
The result of using a more flexible, finer needle in a machine device provides precision and accuracy, as well as reducing the trauma to the skin. We can therefore attain a more natural, long lasting result, particularly with clients who have more oily or mature skin types.
Patch test and initial consultation
I recommend having a tint/wax one week prior or on day of patch test as this will tidy your brows ready for the Nano Brows.
The initial session will begin with a consultation in order to establish the clients preferred aesthetic as well as determining the individual’s facial expressions in order to map out the ideal brows.
Brow Mapping using golden ration proportions is carried out.
Hair removal techniques such as threading, tweezing and trimming is then used to tidy the brows.
The digital machine is then used to replicate hair strokes/powder brows within the second layer of the skin.
Aftercare advice and treatment will be provided
The retouch appointment is typically required in order to add any pigment that did not ‘hold’ during the healing process. This session typically takes 15-60 minutes and must be carried out 4 – 12 weeks of the initial appointment so as not to incur an additional fee.
