BROW GROOMING

PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE

A patch test is required at least 48 hours prior to your treatment.

[A drop-in appointment can be made in the BlushBrow Studio for this and will just take a few moments]

  • In order to get the most out of your brow treatment it is advised to grow out your eyebrow hairs for at least four weeks, which will allow the best brow shape to be formed

  • It is advised to avoid fake tanning three days prior to your treatment as this may alter the colour of the brows and can lift when waxed, leaving white areas around the eyebrow.

  • The use of sunbeds can make the skin more sensitive to wax and should therefore be avoided for 1 week prior to the treatment.

  • Products containing ingredients such as AHA, BHA, Vitamin A and Vitamin A derivatives* make the skin more susceptible to a temporary skinning effect which will make the eyebrow area appear red for up to a few days. For this reason, exfoliants should be avoided for 24hours before and after your treatment.

*AHAs (including lactic acid and glycolic acid), Vitamin A and Vitamin A derivatives (including Retinol, Retinoid and Retinaldehyde) and BHA (salicylic acid)

FAQs

WHAT IS THREADING?

Originating from the Middle East, threading is an increasingly popular form of hair removal for facial hair. A piece of cotton is twisted with the fingers to trap the hairs and remove them from the root. Threading is entirely natural, involves the use of no chemicals, does not damage the skin and removes even the finest of hairs.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF THREADING IS SUITABLE FOR ME?

Threading is suitable for even the most sensitive skin as it quite literally uses nothing apart from a piece of cotton thread, so there is no heat, chemicals or anything else that could harm the delicate skin on your face. Like waxing, after threading the hairs should grow back finer, softer and smoother afterwards. Threading is ideal for creating or maintaining the perfect eyebrow shape.

WILL THE EYEBROW AREA BE RED AFTER WAXING OR THREADING?

The area you have just had waxed or threaded may appear slightly red for a short time after your treatment. Immediately after your treatment, a soothing lotion will be applied which will soothe the area and reduce any redness.

If you book in for the blushBROW Redesign appointment, as opposed to a simple wax, thread, or tint, make-up will be applied to the area at the end of the treatment which will hide any redness around your brows.

CAN I APPLY MAKE-UP AND MOISTURISER AFTER MY TREATMENT?

Can I apply make-up and moisturiser after having my face waxed/threaded?

Clients are advised to avoid applying most make-up and skin products for around 4 hours after your threading appointment. Products formulated for use after these treatments such as soothing lotion/gel or products with antiseptic properties (such as aloe vera or witchhazel) as well as mineral makeup is the exception to this rule.

CAN YOU MAKE MY EYEBROWS THICKER?

Although Precision Brows involves the removal of some hair, a good brow reshape can make your brows appear thicker. Meanwhile, an eyebrow tint will certainly have a thickening effect. Likewise, we can discuss a re-growth program for over-plucked brows.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF EYEBROW TINTING IS SUITABLE FOR ME?

Eyebrow tinting can dramatically enhance the shape and fullness of the brows, providing a dramatic difference to most people’s faces. It is suitable for almost everyone with natural brow hair, although a patch test is necessary a minimum of 24 hours beforehand to ensure your skin is not irritated by the dye products.

WILL TINTING MAKE MY BROWS LOOK VERY DARK?

Before your treatment begins, we will discuss your desired result in terms of how you would like your brows to look and assess your skin/ hair colour before deciding which shade of tint would be best for you. When applying tint

More tint can always be added but cannot be removed. For this reason, in some cases it is best to err on the side of caution and apply and remove the tint several times before the desired shade is reached. Every time the tint is removed you will be asked if it is dark enough.

HOW LONG SHOULD I LEAVE BETWEEN APPOINTMENTS?

Both standard eyebrow shaping/tinting appointments and the Precision Brows is a semi-permanent treatment which lasts between 3-6 weeks. In this time the brow hairs will grow back, and tint will fade over subsequent weeks due to face-washing/removal of makeup. To prolong the results it is recommended you go a shade or two darker when having your brows tinted.

I HAVE HAD A PATCH TEST ELSEWHERE. DO I STILL NEED ONE AT BLUSHBROW?

Yes, even if you’ve had a patch test and tinting treatments in the past at other salons, you will still need a patch test at 48 hours before all first-time tinting (inc. Precision Brows) at the studio.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN A PATCH TEST?

A tiny amount of dye will be applied either behind your ear or on your forearm.

You will then be asked to sign and date a form stating that you have had a patch test at BlushBrow studio.

The process will take no more than a few minutes, and whilst administering the test any sign of reaction you should be looking out for will be explained to you (e.g. any mild itching or swelling in the area). If you experience any of these symptoms, the appointment will have to be cancelled, at no charge to yourself. Otherwise, of no reaction, the treatment will proceed as planned.

DO I NEED TO BOOK A PATCH TEST IN ADVANCE?

When booking in for a brow treatment (that requires a patch test) for the first time you can also book a timeslot for your patch test. This can be completed any evening/weekend and will just take a few moments.

CAN I SIGN A DISCLAIMER FORM INSTEAD OF HAVING A PATCH TEST?

Unfortunately, if you do not receive a patch test in the studio, you will not be able to receive your treatment- there is no option of signing a disclaimer instead.

AFTERCARE ADVICE

WHAT TO EXPECT STRAIGHT AFTER THE PROCEDURE

The enriched protein moisturising serum applied during the final stage of the treatment is vital for restoring the hairs and will provide a protective film around the hair to further encourage brow growth. This can make the brows appear enlarged with a glossy appearance – which some will love, and others will hate. This treatment must not be washed off for the first 24 hours, after which time your brows will have settled and will appear fluffy and texture as well as shrink back slightly.

BROW LAMINATION AFTERCARE

For the first 24 hours following brow lamination the aftercare advice will ensure the longevity of the treatment results:

  • Keep the brows dry for 24 hours

  • Avoid extreme heat treatments (e.g. very hot baths or showers, saunas, steam rooms), swimming, sunbathing (including sun beds or any other exposure to UV light) for 24 hours. Try and avoid exercise or anything that makes you sweat for 24 hours.

FAQs

HOW LONG DOES BROW LAMINATION LAST?

Brow lamination allows you to achieve your desired position for up to 8 weeks, with proper post-procedure care during the 24 hours following the corrective treatment. However, a wax and tint are often recommended 4 weeks after the treatment to maintain the brow’s perfect shape and colour until your next LED Brow Lamination treatment.

HOW DOES BROW LAMINATION DIFFER FROM NANO BROWS/MICROBLADING?

Brow Lamination is a non-invasive treatment; there is no eyebrow extensions or permanent makeup involved. Using entirely your own brow hair a thicker fuller appearance can be achieved by controlling the flow of the hair growth to cover more surface area and correct the shape. Coupling the two treatments are an ideal match for thicker fluffier brows!

CAN NANO BROWS AND BROW LAMINATION BE PERFORMED ON THE SAME DAY?

It is recommended that you have the Brow Lamination either a few days before your microblading treatment or 6-8 weeks afterwards, due to the conflicting natures of the aftercare processes. Once the brows have been through the healing process after microblading the strokes will not be affected by the brow lamination treatment.

DOES BROW LAMINATION EFFECT THE COLOUR OF THE BROWS?

The brow lamination process itself does not affect the colour of the brow hairs. With the full LED Brow Lamination, a tint is coupled with the treatment for a more defined and/or darker appearance.

DOES BROW LAMINATION HURT?

There is no discomfort associated with the treatment.

DO VARIOUS SKIN TYPES REACT DIFFERENTLY TO BROW LAMINATION?

This treatment is great for all skin types. Oilier skinned clients may notice the results wear off slightly faster due to the excess oil production in the skin.

IS BROW LAMINATION SAFE?

Yes, relevant questions will be asked prior to undertaking the treatment and a patch test will be performed to ensure the products used are suitable to you.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME ASSOCIATED WITH BROW LAMINATION?

After the procedure it is recommend you keep the brow area dry and therefore do not partake in any activities that can cause excessive sweating for 24 hours.

WHO IS AN IDEAL BROW LAMINATION CANDIDATE?

From full to sparse, brow lamination will work for most eyebrow shapes and styles and so is an ideal treatment for anyone looking enhance their brow shape.

I HAVE HAD A PATCH TEST ELSEWHERE. DO I STILL NEED ONE AT BLUSHBROW?

Yes, even if you’ve had a patch test and brow lamination in the past at other salons, you will still need a patch test at least 24 hours before the first lamination treatment at the studio.

Unfortunately, if you do not receive a patch test in the studio, you will not be able to receive your treatment- there is no option of signing a disclaimer instead.

CAN I HAVE BROW LAMINATION WHEN I'M PREGNANT?

Whilst brow lamination is perfectly safe during pregnancy, hormones can play a surprising part in altering the hair structure and so if you have recently had a baby or are on any other medication which affects your hormones (not including birth control, a these are not strong enough to have an affect), the lift may not take or may drop out quicker than normal. However, it is important to note that if a reaction does occur during pregnancy some medications for treating the reaction may not be suitable.

CAN I HAVE BROW LAMINATION WHEN I'M ON HORMONE-ALTERING MEDICINE?

Firstly, the contraceptive pill will not alter your hormones enough to cause adverse effects on the brow lamination, so please disregard this info if you’re on the pill! Specifically, hormone-altering medicine taken to treat thyroid  or skin medication such as Roaccutane and similar, have the potential to effect the structure of the hair  and will therefore very often cause inconsistent results. It’s impossible to know how the medicine will affect the hairs, and more often than not it will mean brows either do not lift at all, or can become over-processed even by using the manufacturers guideline timings for processing.  For this reason it is strongly suggested to avoid brow lamination during this kind of treatment, as good results can not be guaranteed- and we always want to achieve good results!!   An excellent option if you’re undergoing hormone treatment is Henna Brows, HD Brows or Precision Brows.

HENNA BROW

PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE

A patch test is required at least 48 hours prior to your treatment.

[A drop-in appointment can be made in the BlushBrow Studio for this and will just take a few moments]

For the full Henna Brow with Precision/HD Brows see Brow Grooming Pre-treatment advice for further answers relating to the hair removal stage of the treatment

  • It is advised that you gently exfoliate your brows in the run up to your appointment to help remove dead skin cells and enable the henna to adhere to the skin more effectively.

  • The henna stain can be altered by fake tan. It is therefore advisable to avoid fake tanning for 3 days prior to the treatment.

AFTERCARE ADVICE

For the first 24 hours following the henna brow treatment the aftercare advice will ensure the longevity of the treatment results:

  • Keep the brows dry for 24 hours

  • Avoid extreme heat treatments (e.g. very hot baths or showers, saunas, steam rooms), swimming, sunbathing (including sun beds or any other exposure to UV light) for 24 hours. Try and avoid exercise or anything that makes you sweat for 24 hours.

  • Do not apply any perfumed products to the area for 24 hours.

  • Avoid the use of make-up on the waxed or threaded area for 24 hours apart from mineral make-up or specialist post-treatment products.

  • Wash your hands before scratching or touching the area.

  • No self-tanning products to the area for 24 hours.

  • Avoid using harsh make-up cleansing products could prematurely reduce your brow tint. Avoid the use of such products at all in-between treatments to prolong the colour retention of your tint.

  • Products containing ingredients such as AHA, BHA, Vitamin A and Vitamin A derivatives* Will reduce the longevity of the henna stain, on the skin in particular. For this reason, exfoliants should be avoided on the brow area in order to prevent the colour from disappearing too fast. Kikewise, oil based make up remover can cause the tint to fade quicker.

*AHAs (including lactic acid and glycolic acid), Vitamin A and Vitamin A derivatives (including Retinol, Retinoid and Retinaldehyde) and BHA (salicylic acid)

FAQs

For the full Henna Brow with Precision/HD Brows see Brow Grooming FAQs for further answers relating to the hair removal stage of the treatment.

CAN I HAVE HENNA BROW OVER PREVIOUS MICROBLADING OR SMPU?

Yes, you can! Although microblading perfects the brows, the hair that grows within the shape will continue to grow back in your natural hair colour. Henna Brows is the perfect solution for this problem as it will tint and cover hairs to your desired colour. Henna is also great for individual's with old permanent makeup or tattooed eyebrows that have changed colour - henna can temporarily ‘freshen’ the colour of the brows in this instance and disguise fading or undesirable results of semi-permanent makeup.

WHAT BRAND OF HENNA IS USED AT BLUSHBROW STUDIO?

Brow Tycoon, The Original UK Henna Brows Brand, is used at BlushBrow. Brow Tycoon henna helps to strengthen and restore hair growth and improves the natural condition of the eyebrow hair. This makes it perfect for people who have sparse, over plucked brows or are still recovering from a nightmare waxing experience. All products of Brow Tycoon Henna are 100% EU compliant for the professional market.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EYEBROW HENNA AND EYEBROW TINT ON YOUR MENU?

The tint used at BlushBrow is a traditional dye and peroxide mixture.

The Henna however, uses just the henna powder and a mineral solution rather than a hydrogen peroxide or special oxidizer. The lack of harsh chemicals helps to maintain the condition of the brows and will not only dye the hairs, but will leave a stain on the skin behind the brow, giving the brow a fuller, defined and filled in look. In terms of longevity, henna can last up to 2 weeks on the skin and 6-7 weeks on the hair.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ONE I MIGHT WANT TO BOOK?

If you are someone who does not normally wear any brow cosmetics (or very little) and prefers a more subtle look to your brows, then you may wish to start with the Eyebrow Tint.

If you are accustomed to a very defined and filled in eyebrow and like a more rich colour the Eyebrow Henna may yield results which match your aesthetic better.

EYELASH EXTENSIONS

PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE

The main thing is to have clean eyes and eyelashes, free of makeup – especially mascara. Some mascaras contain oils that can prevent eyelash extensions bonding correctly. Be sure to use an oil-free makeup remover if removing makeup, and don’t use any oil or petroleum based products on or around the eye area for 48 hours prior (such as Vaseline or moisturizers).

Do not have your eyelashes permed – it is very difficult to apply extensions on lashes which have been permed within the last 6-8 weeks, as often the extensions will not bond correctly. If you have had a more gentle lash lift which has dropped, that should be okay.

Please also remove contact lenses prior to your appointment.

AFTERCARE ADVICE

Avoid getting your lashes wet for 24 hours after every visit, this allows time for the glue to dry.

Do not steam your lashes for 48 hours no hot showers, sauna, steam room, steaming facials. To make your lashes last as long as you can, its best to avoid steam rooms and saunas as you might need to come in a little more frequently for infills.

Avoid oils and creams around the lashes. Avoid wearing foundation on the eyelids. If the lashes touch these products it will loosen the bond and cause the lashes to come off.

Do not sleep directly with your face into a pillow.

Avoid using mascara.

Avoid getting an eye infection cleaning your lashes regularly using a lash shampoo.

Avoid touching your eyes a lot. Rubbing or fiddling with them might prematurely remove your own natural eyelashes leaving gaps.

Do not perm or tint your lashes.

Do not use eyelash curlers as they will break the glue bonds.

Use only oil-free products, especially makeup remover

Gently brush lashes with your lash wand to put them back into place each morning – this will detangle and fluff them out!

FAQs

WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS AND HOW ARE THEY APPLIED?

Eyelash extensions are single synthetic lashes applied directly to the natural lash, close to (but not touching) the lash line with a semi-permanent bonding adhesive. A single extension (classic), or up to 6 super fine extensions (volume) are applied to a single isolated lash, leaving the eyelashes and eyelids to move freely. They are applied carefully, one by one using specially designed tweezers.

CAN I WEAR MAKEUP OR MASCARA WHEN COMING FOR EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

It is recommended that you do not to wear make-up or mascara as this will eat into your appointment time. It is important the lashes are thoroughly cleansed prior to application in order to ensure the longevity of the eyelash extensions and prevent infection.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE EYE MAKEUP WHEN WEARING EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

You must use an oil-free, glycol-free, lash-safe makeup remover, Oil-based removers will damage the lash adhesive and can make eyelash extensions fall off prematurely. Please DON’T use micellar water, makeup wipes, baby oil or baby shampoo to remove your makeup – these contain oils, with makeup wipes usually snagging and pulling on your extensions.

BlushBrow has sourced  high-quality makeup removers specifically formulated for eyelash extensions for optimum lash health. Please be gentle – they are fragile when wet – don’t rub them firmly, they need gentle cleansing to last well. An eyelash cleansing brush can be used to ensure the lashes are thoroughly cleaned without damage! These can be purchased within the studio.

DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS CAUSE DAMAGE TO MY NATURAL LASHES?

Absolutely not, if are applied correctly. Special care is taken to ensure that each lash extension is applied individually and correctly to maintain eyelash health. Further, during your consultation your natural eyelashes will be assessed to determine the maximum thickness, and length your lashes can safely hold. Further, do not try to remove the eyelash extensions yourself – this could easily damage your natural lashes, as the adhesive bond is extremely strong.

WILL I BE CONSULTED ON THE EYELASH EXTENSIONS STYLE?

Yes, every client will have a consultation in which any questions about the treatment will be answered and design style will be discussed before application. A lash map will therefore be set out, customised to suit your eye shape, lash health, personal style and occasion.

HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

Eyelash extensions last roughly 5-6 weeks before every lash sheds. You will require infills approximately every 2-4 weeks in order to fill any sparse areas and maintain your lashes. In an infill appointment, we carefully replace these fallen extensions with brand new ones.

Everyone’s natural lash life cycle differs - once it is complete, the lash falls out naturally, taking the extension with it. Everyone’s lash cycle is a little different, but on average you should be experiencing a turnover of your natural lashes every six weeks or so.

HOW CAN I INCREASE THE LONGEVITY OF MY LASHES?

As well as your individual lash life cycle, the following factors will affect the longevity of eyelash extensions:

  • The use of oily products, as well as very oily skin, around the eyes’ area will normally require infills more regularly.

  • Wearing mascara

  •  Touching the lashes within 8 hours of the procedure, or wetting the lashes within 24 hours.

  •  Brushing/pulling/tugging the eyelashes too much

  •  Going to the beach or swimming pool without wearing the appropriate lash protection.

  •  Having anti-biotics or medical treatment when having eyelash extensions.

CAN I SWIM/SHOWER/GET MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS WET?

Yes, this is one of the main benefits of eyelash extensions – your lashes will be perfect as soon as you wake up or straight out of the shower, and even out of the pool! If you’re swimming in chlorinated or salty water, splash your extensions with fresh water afterwards or clean with a gentle, oil-free and gently pat dry.

ARE THE MATERIALS YOU USE SAFE AND GOOD QUALITY?

Yes, the eyelash extension adhesive used at BlushBrow is almost completely fume-free, approved for cosmetic use and safe for your eyes. It is also very long lasting. Likewise, the eyelash extension remover used is a natural, organic clay debonder. The extensions themselves, have been carefully sourced from a number of the highest quality brands, with the lengths and thicknesses specially customised to suit you! All equipment is thoroughly disinfected before each use and for hygiene reasons a mask is worn and thorough hand-washing and sanitiser between clients is practised.

MY OWN EYELASHES HAVE BEEN FALLING OUT WITH EXTENSIONS ATTACHED  - IS THIS NORMAL?

Every day, we lose anywhere from 1-5 natural lashes. Our lashes also shed at a higher rate seasonally and therefore we can often lose lashes more quickly during this period and therefore many baby lashes can be seen during top-up appointments at this time.

ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS SAFE WHEN PREGNANT?

Generally speaking, eyelash extensions are a safe and non-invasive cosmetic procedure. Blushbrw uses a high-quality, low-fume adhesive that is manufactured specifically for cosmetic use near the eye, and the adhesive is applied to your lash hairs rather than your skin. Allergic reactions to the adhesive are very rare and can be easily treated if they manifest. In saying this, if you are pregnant and have never been to BlushBrow for eyelash extensions before it is strongly recommend you get a patch test at least 48 hours before your treatment.

Secondly, the lash extension procedure requires you to lay flat on your back for over one hour; a position that is not recommended for women in the advanced stages of pregnancy. It also requires that you lie quite still – which can be hard if you’re heavily pregnant! For this reason it is not recommended you have eyelash extensions from your second trimester onwards.

A patch test is required at least 24-48 hours prior to your treatment.

[A drop-in appointment can be made in the BlushBrow Studio for this and will just take a few moments]

Whilst the lashes will be thoroughly cleansed before beginning the treatment, clean, dry lashes are vital for the lifting serum to activate properly so be sure to avoid wearing makeup or mascara on the day of your appointment (try to avoid waterproof mascara for 24 hours before hand).

Avoid getting a spray tan immediately prior to your appointment and make sure any guide tan has been thoroughly washed off the eye area.

Avoid applying oily products on your lashes and around your eyes as this prevents the solutions from working and the lift will not be successful.

AFTERCARE ADVICE

WHAT TO EXPECT STRAIGHT AFTER THE PROCEDURE

LASH LIFT AFTERCARE

For the first 24 hours following brow lamination the aftercare advice will ensure the longevity of the treatment results:

  • Keep the lashes dry for 24 hours (avoiding saunas, steam rooms, bathing, cooking or ironing also) as water, steam and humidity can cause the lashes to drop and not last the full 6-8 weeks

  • Gently comb lashes upwards every day

  • Consider how you sleep- if you sleep face down on your pillow or face to one side it can move and manipulate the lashes.

  • You may get some swelling, this is normal and should subside within 2 days.

  • In some cases there may be slight bruising. This should last no longer than 1 week.

  • Remember your colour will be darker and more prominent for 5-7 days on average.

  • Avoid any sauna/swimming/heavy exercise until the area has completely healed.

  • For this first 6 hours post treatment, keep the area completely clean and dry. Do not apply anything.

EYEBROWS*:
After the first 6 hours, gently wipe the area clean with a damp tissue.

Pat dry and apply a small layer of MicroBalm with a clean cotton bud.

Repeat 2-3 times a day until the area has healed.

Continue to apply your MicroBalm for 28 days for best results & skin healing.

FAQs

HOW LONG DOES SPMU LAST?

A lash lift allows you to achieve your desired position for up to 8 weeks, with proper post-procedure care during the 24 hours following the corrective treatment.
